Nací en Jackson, Mississippi y viví allí durante la mayor parte de mi infancia hasta que me fui a la universidad en el medio oeste. Fue allí donde comencé a interpretar y escribir canciones. Gracias a algunos profesores y amigos útiles, pude prosperar creativamente e incluso encontrar mi camino en un estudio de grabación aquí y allá. Poco después, me sorprendí y me enamoré de un chico de Mississippi. Después de casarnos, miramos un mapa de los Estados Unidos y decidimos que Carolina del Norte podría ser un buen lugar para vivir. Así que nos fuimos sin trabajo y sin lugar para vivir.
De alguna manera, convencimos a un hombre para que nos dejara alquilar un apartamento, y comencé a dar conciertos en Chapel Hill, Durham y Raleigh. Conocí a John Plymale y él me ayudó a hacer mi primer disco llamado Night Air. WUNC tuvo la amabilidad de comenzar a tocar mis canciones de este y otro registro de himnos llamado Sanctuary. Comencé a viajar por todo el país como solista.
Desde entonces he hecho algunos discos más, un par de los cuales fueron publicados por Yep Roc Records. También me mudé a Los Ángeles, lo cual todavía me cuesta creer. Una de las mejores cosas de tocar música es escribir y cantar con otros músicos y trabajar con cineastas .
