La banda acústica original, The Barn Swallows, proviene del sureste de Pensilvania, a poca distancia a pie del Festival Folclórico de Filadelfia. El núcleo de la banda está formado por el dúo de Sandy Pluta, jugadora de dobro, y Matthew Gordon, guitarrista, y con frecuencia cuenta con amigos invitados especiales en el bajo, el violín, el acordeón y/o la percusión. Su CD de estudio homónimo fusiona bluegrass, folk, blues y country para explorar temas de alegría, angustia, humor y anhelo.
